In need of a kickstart to your day? Something with some substance and flavor? Well, I have a suggestion for you, how about a long and fulfilling Cold Brew Smoothie? It’s a combination of cold brew (of course), old fashioned oats, bananas, milk, almond butter, dates and cocoa powder. Are you licking your lips?
This Cold Brew Smoothie is delicious and a great way to start your day. Did I say that already?!
You can adapt the recipe if you like, add more cold brew if you need a boost. Alternatively, you could make the smoothie denser, more of a meal replacement, by adding one or two extra tablespoons of old fashioned oats, another banana or more almond butter. If you prefer your smoothie sweet and chocolatey you can add more dates and cocoa. The variations are up to you, just don’t add a little extra of everything, balance is important.
I’m a fan of nut milks and they are ideal in this smoothie. If you have nut allergies (nix the almond butter too) or prefer cows milk, I would suggest you use whole milk to make sure you get that smoothie consistency.
If you’re not sure which cold brew to use, fear not any will do. I used Califia Farms Cold Brew Concentrate, but as I said, any will do. You will only need 1 cup of cold brew concentrate, so you will have some left over. Thankfully, most cold brew concentrates lasts up to 12-14 days. Which means you can indulge in another Cold Brew Smoothie next week.
This is a recipe for two, double the ingredients for four and halve the ingredients for one.
Cold Brew Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 2 1/2 cups milk
- 2 frozen bananas
- 1 cup cold brew concentrate
- 1 tbsp almond butter
- 1-2 pitted dates
- 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
Instructions
- Place oats in a small bowl and pour 1/2 a cup of milk over them. Stir to make sure all of the oats are moist and allow the milk to soften the oats for approx. 15 minutes.
- Once the oats have softened, tip them into a blender.
- Break up the bananas and place them in the blender with the rest of the ingredients.
- Blend on a low setting until the banana pieces have disappeared and then raise to a higher setting for 30 seconds to get a frothy topping.
- Divide into two 16 oz glasses and serve immediately.
