Today’s recipe is Detox Gin Tonic, a tasty cocktail. It is inspired by a cocktail I enjoyed during a recent visit to Castell Rooftop Lounge. You can find Castell Rooftop Lounge at the A C Hotel, Times Square, New York.
You’ll love Detox Gin Tonic. It’s such a refreshing tipple made of gin, ginger and tonic, and dressed with cucumber, lemon and star anise. It’s a delight to the tastebuds.
Detox Gin Tonic is a great cocktail, a big one in fact, therefore caution should be applied. Sip it slowly! Serve in large globe cocktail glasses or highballs so that the garnish can flow freely and release its flavors.
Detox Gin Tonic will make for a great garden or rooftop soiree signature cocktail. It will keep you cool while providing a subtle euphoria. Beautifully presented, it will garner immediate interest by your guests.
I was celebrating my niece’s birthday when we visited Castell. A comfortable rooftop heated on cool days, making it a great venue during the majority of the year.
If you visit Castell ask for The Signature Gin Tonic to enjoy the cocktail that compelled me to create the Detox Gin Tonic. It is close to a carbon copy with the addition of fresh grated ginger. Ginger is not vital, but I love it and what it does to this cocktail. I wouldn’t make it without it. You can replace the Gin with Vodka if you like. However, I prefer Gin as it is a more aromatic liquor and brings out the flavors of the other ingredients.
Are you wondering why I call my version of Castell’s cocktail Detox Gin Tonic? Well, Ginger, cucumber and spices are important ingredients in a detox. Worry not, by no means am I suggesting that a cocktail can provide a detox, it can’t. Then again, what better ingredients to have in your cocktail than those that provide hydration and positive health benefits?
This cocktail goes down really well, so I would suggest you learn how to make it in large batches to save yourself time going back and forth to the bar.
