July 4 is around the corner. Do you plan on grilling some burgers? Here’s a really easy one for you, triple cheese burger, #4 of my burger lab series.
No matter the components of my burger, cheese is an important factor. A burger without cheese, for me, is a poor experience. There’s something wonderful about great ground beef covered in melted cheese, encased in a fresh bun. Don’t you agree?
This burger is all about marrying the perfect melt in your mouth burger patty with sensational tasting cheese. Initially, I thought that I would have to put a lot of work in to find the perfect three cheeses, but finding the right cheeses was a no-brainer, I just chose the ones I really enjoy. I decided on cheddar, gruyere and smoked gouda – a great combination. Together they make for a sharp, nutty, smokey partner to a succulent beef patty. You can follow my recipe and select the same cheeses as I did, or you can experiment with your favorite cheeses. Just make sure the cheeses you opt for have marked differences in flavor, but are similar in texture.
I didn’t use a custom blend for the beef patty. I bought 80/20 ground beef which was on sale at FreshDirect. My plan for this ground beef was to use it for recipe testing to get my flavors right, but once I cooked the meat, my taste buds celebrated. FreshDirect’s ground beef forms into a patty really easily and cooks so well, staying moist throughout – yum.
I’m a lover of brioche buns, I haven’t found another bun that works better with the awesome meaty goodness of a tasty burger. This brioche bun is an onion brioche bun – aye yai yai!
You’ve got to try this triple cheese burger for July 4 and share with your family and friends. It’s super easy to make, just shred the cheese, mix, grill your burger, sprinkle mixed cheese below and above the burger patty, encase in an onion brioche bun and serve with condiments and fries.
Triple Cheese Burger
Ingredients
- 1 lb 80% lean ground beef
- Pinch salt
- 1/2 cup smoked gouda shredded
- 1/2 cup cheddar shredded
- 1/2 cup gruyere shredded
- 2 onion brioche buns
Instructions
- Heat grill on a medium heat, then spray with oil, just a touch.
- Form two 8 oz patties making sure the center of each patty is a less dense than the outer edges. Just gently press down in the center with your fingers and thumbs while holding each patty in both hands. Do not overwork the patty.
- Sprinkle burger patties with a pinch of salt on each side and then cook to preferred temperature.
- If you have a grill with a side burner or panel, set patties on that area, which should be a little warm, and allow to rest. If not, make sure to have a prep table to hand.
- Combine the three cheeses and then split in half to apply to each burger and set aside.
- Grill brioche buns and once lightly grilled, begin to build your burgers.
- Place a modest amount of cheese on base of bun, place burger patty on top of cheese then pile a generous amount of cheese over burger patty.
- Place top of burger on top, then cover with a large bowl to contain the heat which will help the cheese to melt just a little.
- Serve with fries and condiments.
